Hi there! I’m Anastasiia, customer support manager here at RshPets — and also a proud cat mom to a fluffy explorer named James.
When summer rolls in and the heat makes the outdoors feel like a furnace, James turns into a sleepy puddle of fur sprawled across the coolest tile he can find. Sound familiar?
But just because it’s hot out doesn’t mean your cat has to be bored inside! With a little imagination and a few simple setups, you can turn your living room into a feline playground. Here are 7 indoor games that James and I swear by — fun, low-effort, and purr-fectly tailored for summer.
🧶 1. DIY Obstacle Course
One day, I set up a “maze” for James with cushions, a cardboard box, and a tunnel — and he had the time of his life! You can do the same with things you already have at home. Toss a treat at the end to motivate your little adventurer.
👉 James’ Tip: Add a shelf or ceiling bridge if you have one — it makes the course way more exciting!🎣 2. Interactive Wand Toys
A feather wand never fails. I wave it under the sofa, behind curtains, and in circles — and James leaps, spins, and pounces like a pro. It’s his daily “hunting” ritual.
⏱️ Just 10 minutes a couple of times a day helps him burn energy — and keeps the couch safe from claw attacks!
🧩 3. Puzzle Feeders & Treat Games
Mealtime = playtime. I hide James’ kibble in puzzle balls or a muffin tray, and he has to figure out how to get them out. It’s enrichment and feeding all in one.
🍗 Bonus: It slows him down and reduces boredom munching!
🐾 4. Climb & Scratch Sessions
James loves vertical space. So, we installed one of our RshPets climbing systems — with shelves, steps, and scratching posts. Now he climbs, lounges, and sharpens his claws with pride.
- Wall-mounted shelves
- Sisal-covered climbing posts
- High perches with cushions
Everything is modular and blends beautifully into our home.

🔦 5. Laser Pointer Chase
The red dot mystery never gets old. Just make sure to end with a physical toy he can catch — otherwise James gets a little grumpy 😼
⚠️ And of course, never shine the laser in their eyes.
🐭 6. Hide and Seek with Toys
Sometimes I sneak little toys behind pillows or under rugs. Watching James sniff, paw, and discover them is pure joy — and he gets that satisfying “hunter” feeling indoors.
🎯 Rotate toys every few days to keep things fresh.
📦 7. The Magic of Boxes
Oh, the humble cardboard box! No matter how fancy the toy, James always ends up inside the box it came in. Cut some holes, stack a few — voilà, a DIY cat castle!
🎁 Bonus game: Drop in a treat and watch the sneak attack unfold.
🌬️ Stay Cool, Stay Active
Even during heatwaves, play doesn’t have to stop. With a few creative games — and the right climbing furniture — your cat can stay active, curious, and happy indoors.
